Gastroenterologist Janneke van der Woude, born in 1966 in Groningen, The Netherlands
is a staff member of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department of the Erasmus
University Medical Centre in Rotterdam since 2001.
Janneke got her Masters degree at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and did her
internship at the University Medical Centre in Groningen on the Gastroenterology
Department. She graduated in 2004 at the University Medical Centre in Groningen
on the thesis: "Apoptosis in (pre-) malignant lesions in the gastro-intestinal
tract".
At the Erasmus University Medical Centre she is currently leading the clinical
unit for inflammatory bowel diseases.
She leads a group of internals/researchers whereby research on the different
aspects of inflammatory bowel diseases is being done in close cooperation with
the departments of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pathology, Psychology and Internal
Medicine.
The researchline focuses on new methods for treatment of IBD, improved quality
of life for IBD patients and colitis related cancer.
Currently there are eight clinical trials for the treatment of IBD in progress.
In recent years a total of twelve of similar trials have been successfully executed.
Based on an agreement with the ICC (Initiative on Crohn & Colitis) she leads
research projects on a nationwide scale in which all IBD units of the Dutch
Academic Medical Centres are participant.
Janneke is chairman of the ICC and Board member of the ECCO (European Crohn's
& Colitis Organization).
